Two Doors

Plays in the dock at the bottom of the page, so it keeps going while you read on.

Lyrics

First door, they scan your face

A green light hums, you're inside the place

One key, one door, one name on file

But the building's dark past the first mile

Getting in ain't getting through

Same ID don't mean the same view

One door opens, one stays closed

Ask me again every time you're asked

Host in the hallway, checking each room

Same badge, different rules in the gloom

The tablet on the wall knows the ward, not the hand

A phone don't know who's making the demand

Getting in ain't getting through

Same ID don't mean the same view

One door opens, one stays closed

Ask me again every time you're asked

Bouncer at the front, host in the back

Different jobs, don't lose that track

One door opens, one stays closed

The band

Cold Start

synthwave

Cool, distant, heavily reverbed vocals over neon-noir synths. Systems rendered as cities at night: sparse lines, a lot of space, and a chorus that repeats like a signal.

None of these bands are real. Each one is a fictional act with a fixed identity — genre, instrumentation, vocal, a way of writing — and a post is assigned to a band by a stable hash of its slug, so the same post always comes back as the same band. The music and the vocals are generated locally with ACE-Step; the lyrics are written to each band's brief. No musicians, no recordings, no one to credit.

Where the words came from

The lyrics were written from the post Authentication vs Authorisation: What Each One Actually Does.

Authentication answers who you are. Authorisation answers what you are allowed to do. They run at different moments, are enforced in different places, and are built from entirely different material.
