Look Before You Lock It
Plays in the dock at the bottom of the page, so it keeps going while you read on.
Lyrics
Same slot, same time, two hands on the wheel
Nobody told the other one it wasn't a real deal
An hour gone chasing down a phantom crash
Turns out it's just two fools who both wanted the cash
So somebody says "build a system, build it strong"
Before you write one line ask if that's where it went wrong
Don't build the lock, just open the door
Put it on the wall, let 'em see what's in store
Who's got it, how long, and where it's gonna be
A list beats a lock when the problem's just "I couldn't see!"
We wrote it on a spreadsheet, nothing fancy, nothing slick
Just a name and a time, check it, that's the trick
(Who's got the login?) I don't know, go and look!
(Who's got the login?) It's right there in the book!
(Did it work?) Oh it worked, no bugs, no fuss
(Did it work?) 'Cause the problem was never trust
Not every fight needs a fortress and a guard
Some just need a window, ain't gotta be hard
Enforcement's for the rule-breaker, that's a different game
Visibility's for the fella who don't know the rule's got a name
Don't build the lock, just open the door
Put it on the wall, let 'em see what's in store
Who's got it, how long, and where it's gonna be
A list beats a lock when the problem's just "I couldn't see!"
Look before you reach, that's all it takes
Save the steel and the code for the bigger stakes
The band
The Standup
Fast, cheerful and upstroked, with a whole room shouting the hook back. Comic and rhyme-heavy, but the joke always lands on a real point, and it mocks the ritual rather than the people.
None of these bands are real. Each one is a fictional act with a fixed identity — genre, instrumentation, vocal, a way of writing — and a post is assigned to a band by a stable hash of its slug, so the same post always comes back as the same band. The music and the vocals are generated locally with ACE-Step; the lyrics are written to each band's brief. No musicians, no recordings, no one to credit.
Where the words came from
The lyrics were written from the post Make the Shared Thing Visible Before You Automate It.
When two independent processes keep silently colliding over one shared resource, a simple visible way to claim it often beats another layer of clever automation.
