Silence Says Yes

Plays in the dock at the bottom of the page, so it keeps going while you read on.

Lyrics

Pulled the lever off the wall

Left the wire hanging, live and small

Build went green, the tests went through

Log line printing nothing true

Somebody set it a year ago

Night-shift hand on a job nobody knows

Service rises, clean and calm

They swear their brake is holding on

Silence says yes!

Silence says yes!

A switch wired to nothing is a lie in the dark

Stop the engine! Name the key!

Fail it loud in front of me!

Silence says yes!

Check the logs that never throw

Check the gauges reading zero

Forgiving code won't tell you when

It's bolted to a ghost again

What was it holding? What did it hide?

Silence says yes!

A switch wired to nothing is a lie in the dark

Stop the engine! Name the key!

Fail it loud in front of me!

Silence says yes!

One release, warn it, shout it

Name the key, say what replaced it

Then bolt the door, reject the rest

Supported, warned or dead, no guess

A refused start costs an afternoon

Six months of lies will bury you

Name the key!

Kill the start!

Silence says yes!

Not gone till it screams!

The band

Blast Radius

industrial rock

Shouted and processed verses over machine-tight riffing, opening into layered gang vocals. Blunt and percussive: imperatives, short hammered phrases, and an urgency about consequence, cost and how far the damage reaches.

None of these bands are real. Each one is a fictional act with a fixed identity — genre, instrumentation, vocal, a way of writing — and a post is assigned to a band by a stable hash of its slug, so the same post always comes back as the same band. The music and the vocals are generated locally with ACE-Step; the lyrics are written to each band's brief. No musicians, no recordings, no one to credit.

Where the words came from

The lyrics were written from the post A Removed Setting Should Fail Loudly.

When you delete a configuration option, old values for it should stop the service starting, because a setting that is accepted but ignored tells the operator something false.
