Whose Call Is This
Plays in the dock at the bottom of the page, so it keeps going while you read on.
Lyrics
We sat around the same two roads
Saying what we already know
Every voice had made its case
Still nobody moved to close
We were circling, not deciding
Waiting on somebody's name
You never left us standing there
You didn't wait to be told twice
You looked at us and made the call
Walked the road and paid the price
You carried what was Yours to carry
And You call us to do the same
Jesus, teach us whose it is to choose
Give us one who'll bear the weight and move
Not the loudest, just the one who's named
So the waiting doesn't win the day
We learn to name it before we start
One pair of hands to hold the call
Everyone else stops guarding ground
And starts just giving all they've got
That's the gift You gave the Father
When You said not what I will, but Yours
Lord, make the exposed place safe again
Let the yes and no both cost us less than silence does
Thank You for the weight You bore
So we could learn to bear our own
Jesus, teach us whose it is to choose
Give us one who'll bear the weight and move
Not the loudest, just the one who's named
So the waiting doesn't win the day
Whose call is this
We're not afraid to say
Whose call is this
Thank You, we'll walk that way
The band
Software in the Pews
An unhurried male tenor answered by a whole room singing the hook back. Earnest, communal and plain-spoken - more 'we' than 'I' - building on one simple image and returning to it, hopeful about getting things right together.
None of these bands are real. Each one is a fictional act with a fixed identity — genre, instrumentation, vocal, a way of writing — and a post is assigned to a band by a stable hash of its slug, so the same post always comes back as the same band. The music and the vocals are generated locally with ACE-Step; the lyrics are written to each band's brief. No musicians, no recordings, no one to credit.
Where the words came from
The lyrics were written from the post Someone Has To Own The Decision.
A technical trade-off that stalls for days is rarely missing information, it is missing someone whose job it is to actually decide.
