Not My Call

Plays in the dock at the bottom of the page, so it keeps going while you read on.

Lyrics

Hit the wall

Stop right there

Not my call

Don't pretend

Code looks clean

Hands stay off

Leave the seam

Write it down

I DIDN'T FINISH AND THAT'S THE WIN

LEFT THE DOOR OPEN, DIDN'T WALK IN

WROTE YOU EVERYTHING THAT I FOUND

SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO DIG IT BACK OUT THE GROUND

Saw the bug

Next one over

Same disease

No safety rope for ya

Split the ticket

Left it loose

Unassigned

Not my noose

I DIDN'T FINISH AND THAT'S THE WIN

LEFT THE DOOR OPEN, DIDN'T WALK IN

WROTE YOU EVERYTHING THAT I FOUND

SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO DIG IT BACK OUT THE GROUND

(half-time)

Deny... by default...

Deny... it's not mine to melt...

Every door I don't just open

Is a door you can still check

I DIDN'T FINISH AND THAT'S THE WIN

LEFT THE DOOR OPEN, DIDN'T WALK IN

WROTE YOU EVERYTHING THAT I FOUND

SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO DIG IT BACK OUT THE GROUND

Thread stays open

Call stays yours

Thread stays open

Call stays yours

The band

Force Push

electronicore

Screamed verses, a rave synth, a metalcore breakdown and an enormous clean chorus the whole band shouts along with. Ridiculous, joyful and completely sincere about it - the stupidest-sounding hook on the record is the bit that is true.

None of these bands are real. Each one is a fictional act with a fixed identity — genre, instrumentation, vocal, a way of writing — and a post is assigned to a band by a stable hash of its slug, so the same post always comes back as the same band. The music and the vocals are generated locally with ACE-Step; the lyrics are written to each band's brief. No musicians, no recordings, no one to credit.

Where the words came from

The lyrics were written from the post The Agent That Knew What Wasn't Its Call.

The most trustworthy thing an autonomous system can do is recognise which decisions belong to a human and hand them back with enough context that nobody has to redo the thinking.
