Praise It Loud Before You Drop the Hammer

Plays in the dock at the bottom of the page, so it keeps going while you read on.

Lyrics

You wanna fix it fast, boy, don't lead with the blade

Open with the wound and watch the walls get made

He's already lawyering while you're talkin' through it

Tell him what he built right, then tell him where he blew it

Three things true and sharp, said plain, said clean

The part he locked down tight so it stays behind the screen

The test he built to prove the thing that mattered

Then one line, blocking, so nothing gets scattered

Praise it loud before you drop the hammer

Say what's true before you name the damn error

Same words, different door — that's the whole trick

Praise it loud, then swing it quick

Vague praise is a lie dressed up in a bow

He can smell the padding, he'll discount what you know

Specific or silent, there ain't no in between

Sort the blocking from the maybe, keep the signal clean

Every review's a mirror, held up close and near

Open with the axe, boy, they'll flinch every year

Teach 'em bracing is the cost of showing work half-done

Or teach 'em you're listening — pick only one

Praise it loud before you drop the hammer

Say what's true before you name the damn error

Same words, different door — that's the whole trick

Praise it loud, then swing it quick

(Say it true!) — before you drop the hammer

(Say it plain!) — before you name the error

(Same damn words!) — different door, different trick

(Praise it loud!) — then swing it quick

No apology, just the order I chose

Fix came back in an hour — that's how the story goes

The band

Highway to Prod

hard rock

Two bars of unaccompanied riff, then the whole pub: open-chord crunch, the snare hard on two and four, and a high rasped howl that spends the chorus flat out at the top of its range. Half late-seventies bar-room stomp, half Sunset Strip sleaze, with a screaming lead break in the middle. Boasts about the reckless thing it did on purpose, and never once sounds sorry about it.

None of these bands are real. Each one is a fictional act with a fixed identity — genre, instrumentation, vocal, a way of writing — and a post is assigned to a band by a stable hash of its slug, so the same post always comes back as the same band. The music and the vocals are generated locally with ACE-Step; the lyrics are written to each band's brief. No musicians, no recordings, no one to credit.

Where the words came from

The lyrics were written from the post The Sequence Of A Code Review Is Part Of The Message.

A review that leads with specific, genuine strengths before naming the blocking issue gets fixed faster than one that opens with the objection, because the order decides whether the recipient defends or listens.
